Föderation EN Do 24.08.2023 02:33:07 When I click on a hashtag in #Tusky I see a "mute" icon every time. Even for hashtags I've never seen before. These are backwards (imo). The icon should indicate the CURRENT status, not the desired status. Medien: 1 |
Föderation EN Do 24.08.2023 09:09:08 @lazysupper does it help if instead of thinking of it as a status indicator, you think of it as a button, and it's telling you what will happen if you press the button? |
Föderation EN Do 24.08.2023 14:03:03 @nikclayton well yes, that's what it's telling me. 😁 I understand that. But I have to think about it. On mobile devices, I think a toggle button should indicate status. |
Föderation EN Do 24.08.2023 15:07:50 @lazysupper I think it's more complicated than that. For example, in a media player, mobile or not, [>] pretty universally means "Play", and toggles to [||] meaning pause. There, the icon on the button indicates what will happen when you click it, not the current state. Just like the those buttons in Tusky you mentioned. But... other Tusky buttons behave the way you describe (e.g., bookmark, favourite). They also use colour and filled/not-filled to indicate state. Hmm. |
Föderation EN Do 24.08.2023 15:43:26 @lazysupper Here's a quick experiment. In this screenshot the socialmedia hashtag is not muted (so it appears filled in and blue), and I am not following the hashtag (so the icon is an outline, and in grey) Medien: 1 |
Föderation EN Do 24.08.2023 15:44:29 @lazysupper In this screenshot the hashtag is followed (so the icon is filled in and blue), and not muted (so the icon is filled in and blue). Medien: 1 |
Föderation EN Do 24.08.2023 15:46:35 @lazysupper Finally, not followed, and muted. I'm not sure the combination of outlined icon and colour here gives a strong enough signal of "this is muted", especially with the stylised audio waves coming from the speaker. Medien: 1 |
Föderation EN Do 24.08.2023 16:56:39 @nikclayton This is what makes most sense to me with a toggle, as colour indicates off/on. A speaker emitting soundwaves makes me think the volume is ON. But that's when its other state is a speaker emitting an X. However, somewhat conversely, the follow and unfollow icons make sense while indicating result instead of status. (With a + for follow and a - for Unfollow.) 🤷♀️ Medien: 1 |
Föderation EN Do 24.08.2023 18:38:45 @nikclayton @lazysupper I'm not enough of a ui design guy to say what the right approach is here - but I feel like it's been a challenge for a long time! |
