What password manager would you recommend to someone who uses primarily Android and Windows? I know it’s not the one I help make. :)
Google Password Manager? Bitwarden?

@rmondello 1Password requires subscription but very nice UI

@rmondello I’ve used @1password since before I moved from Android to iOS. Its cross platform nature makes it an easy recommendation for me.

@rmondello Bitwarden. The app is great, self-hosting is easy.

@rmondello 1Password clients have great UI and features. If you don’t mind a less polished UI Bitwarden is a great choice but it goes to the second place.
IMHO a family password manager needs to have a good UI for the less technical members. 😬

@rmondello After all, still 1Password (or maybe give Proton Pass a try).

@rmondello Google Password Manager doesn’t end-to-end encrypt passwords by default (it uploads the encryption key alongside the passwords), so I wouldn’t recommend it unless they can’t be trusted to remember their password. You can enable on-device encryption, though.
Bitwarden has a mostly unlimited free tier, which is easy to recommend, but doesn’t generate 2FA codes without a paid tier.
If they’re willing to pay, I’d recommend Dashlane or 1Password. I’ve personally used both Bitwarden and Dashlane (although many years ago) and had no issues with either.
BTW, if you haven’t seen this comparing security of online password managers:

@rmondello If I weren’t in the Apple ecosystem I’d probably still use 1Password.
My employer uses it, as it’s cross-platform, and there have been no complaints.

@rmondello I've been using #bitwarden ever since lastpass tried increasing its price for the third year in a row.
It works wonderfully with the flavours of browser I chuck at it. Android bitwarden is quite seamless and enjoyable.
I've paired it with my yubikey and aegis authenticator. Having totp in bitwarden seems a bit too all my eggs in one basket.

@rmondello I always recommend bitwarden, no matter the platform.
If you're not tech savvy the free tier is awesome, it does everything you need.
If you're tech savvy, you can selfhost and have even more control. It's just great

@rmondello Bitwarden. Hasn’t lost anything I’ve saved yet (can’t say the same for 1P sadly). UI could be better but it probably fits into the Android world better. Works fine in Windows (my server). It’s my backup on iPhone. I much prefer the Passwords.app and passkeys life.
