Föderation EN Di 23.01.2024 17:44:33 I'm still learning about Mastodon. What happens when a toot is unlisted? Is there a way to change your audience once you have tooted something? Is there a way to restrict a toot to your local instance? #MastodonNewbie |
Föderation EN Di 23.01.2024 20:07:19 According to @FediTips at https://fedi.tips/who-can-see-my-posts-in-mastodon-how-do-i-send-dms-in-mastodon/ Unlisted – Anyone can see it, but it won’t appear in the Explore section or the Local or Federated timelines, and won’t be searchable by hashtags. This can be useful for replying in threads, so that you’re not filling people’s timelines unnecessarily. Normally indicated by an open lock icon Also some servers have a local only mode, it started on the hometown fork but I think it was merged into the main mastodon server. For me the option to do a local only post shows up on the three dots menu between the language and the character count at the footer of the post edit box. |
Föderation EN Di 23.01.2024 20:13:15 Hey there! "Local-only" isn't in the official vanilla Mastodon software, but Diane's server octodon.social is running Glitch, which is an excellent unofficial fork of Mastodon. Maria's server is just running vanilla Mastodon, so they won't have an option for local-only posts. You can't change a post's visibility once it's been published, you would have to delete and republish it with a different visibility. |
Föderation EN Di 23.01.2024 21:14:10 @FediTips @alienghic Thanks for the explanation and clarification! A local-only post option would be really nice for a geographically local instance. |
