Later, on my desktop computer, I opened pixelfed.social/login to log into my account. I was surprised one option is to log in with Mastodon. I tried, but it said username "sloanlance" was already used. I thought I should delete my account and recreate using Mastodon account, but later I read I couldn't use that name again. What should I do? |

All that this option does is create a brand new Pixelfed account for you, and copies over some of the information from your Mastodon account. Basically just avoid that option because it doesn't do what it claims to. The reason it said the name was taken is because you had already set up your account with that name. |

Föderation EN Di 14.01.2025 22:21:43 @FediTips Oh. So, because I already have the @sloanlance@pixelfed.social account, there's no advantage to trying to remake the account from this Mastodon account. Is that right? After using Pixelfed a short time, it looks to me like some people use their Mastodon account for Pixelfed, too. I was hoping this would allow me to do that, too. Would I need to switch both my Mastodon and Pixelfed accounts to another server that supports both? |

I then searched for help and that's when I read that once an account is deleted, its username can't be reused on the server. That's when I decided to stop and ask for advice. |

But your username on a Fedi account isn't just the first part, it's the second part too. Your identity is a Fediverse address which mentions your server too. There's more info here: |
