@jcrabapple WHOA! Those prices are absolutely INSANE compared to something like Masto.Host that offers similar stuff for WAY WAY cheaper.
Example, SpaceHost wants $106 a month for 100 users when MastoHost does it for $40.

@jcrabapple @CliffWade It looks like this is hosted on DigitalOcean. OVH is a very budget hosting option so that explains some of it and they also probably benefit much more from economies of scale at this point.

- They host/support A LOT of different platforms. This complexity (unlike masto.host) probably means extra cost.
- They are also much newer, Masto.host has things pretty smoothed out, automated, etc... probably helps reduce cost compared to spacehost
- Probably better to over-price to start and lower it from there rather than be forced to raise prices on people later?

@shellsharks The offering of so many services could certainly be it. However, if I click on Mastodon, and go with the 100 user plan, I still don't think that alone should be $106. I'm not saying it needs to be dirt cheap, but I think that $106 is just too much.

@CliffWade @jcrabapple Masto.Host is still almost certainly cheaper but I do think they use a slightly different metric for users since SpaceHost is talking about "average users" and Masto.Host is talking about "active users".
Active users in a Mastodon context probably refers to the number reported by Mastodon, which is defined as anyone having even logged in within a month. Average users sounds like it refers to concurrent users on the site at any point in time, on average.
